Online Auction In an attempt to clean out any remaining inventory from our store that will not be sold in our new location, we are participating in an online auction. The auction is in progress right now. We have 765 different lots, many with brand new items. It took longer to prepare than I had anticipated so it started about a week later than I had predicted earlier. Therefore, it will close about a week later, also. The auction will conclude on September 4 and people will pick up their successful bids on September 5. We had an open house to view the items on Wednesday, August 22.
Because we had so many items, our sale spans 3 seperate online catalogs. You can look at the lots in
each catalog by using the following links: New Location We are still anticipating opening our new store on Saturday, September 1. We have moved most of the items over there already except for the wooden shoes, which we will start on soon. It may take us a little while to have it just the way we want it, but it is coming along nicely. I will put our little open/closed sign out in front of the garage (under a big pot of flowers), so you can see if we are open. At this time we plan on keeping the same hours that we had at the big store, i.e. open at 10:07 a.m. each morning and staying open until 5:13 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We will stay open until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and 3:13 on Saturdays. However, the first Wednesday of September is the day for people to pick up the auction items, so we will be at our original store that evening. "New" Books Many of you know that I get most of my used books from my uncle who lives in Rapid City, South Dakota. He is a former university librarian and he and his wife supervise book sales for their senior citizen center in Rapid City. So he has access to some great reading and several times a year sends us good stuff. He brought a box over this past July, but we are waiting until the first day of our new opening to share them with you. On September 1 we will have them available at our new location. Come and check them out. Farmers' Market We are playing with the idea of taking part in the Saturday Farmers’ Market next year. Our Chamber is always looking at ways of making our city more vibrant and one of their newest ideas is to block off our main street on Saturdays and putting up tents for a Farmers’ Market. While most people think of Farmers’ Markets being mainly food, our Chamber Director, has been encouraging more of the regular businesses to take part as well. We could bring some of our discs, wooden shoes, books, etc. and it would also give us an opportunity to tell people about our new location. I thought it might also be a good idea to make some of the items in our new Dutch Cookbook and give away small samples and tell people on which page to find the recipe. – These are all thoughts for the future, but I think it is worth thinking about. Juliana's Frisbee Competition Update Recently, my daughter, Juliana Korver travelled to Berlin, Germany for the European Freestyle Open (EFO). She placed 3rd in Women's pairs and 4th in Mixed pairs. She was somewhat dissappointed in this outcome as she and her respective partners placed first in both Women's pairs and mixed pairs the previous day in the semi-final round, but did not play as cleanly in the finals. However, the EFO was simply a warmup for the Freestyle World Championships - the reason for the trip. The World Championships were held in Trnava, Slovakia in conjunction with the Trnava Frisbee Games. It was a 4 day event. Juliana made it to the finals in both Women's pairs and mixed pairs. She and her partner, Ilka Simon, from Colgne, Germany ended up in second place in women's pairs. In mixed pairs, Juliana played with fellow San Diegian, Dave Schiller. They finished in 3rd place in the very difficult mixed pairs division. Juliana was extremely happy with these results as her goal for this year was to make the podium (top 3) which she did twice. She is already looking forward to next year's World Championships that will be held in Seattle, WA. Click here to watch Juliana's final routine in mixed pairs. However, we were still open for awhile since our last newsletter and we had people register from Illinois and Iowa and also Cameroon, Haiti, The Netherlands and Spain. | |||||||
