Crazy Dayz Starts Next Week
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Wednesday, January 25 through Saturday, January 28 will be Crazy Dayz in Orange City. We will have a 20% off table with many unique sewing items and notions and 50% off a few things including chocolate Dutch letters from Christmas. You probably won’t get a specific letter because the popular letters are gone, but they all taste the same. We have things so crowded in the store that you can’t always find the unique things you might be looking for. That’s why we will feature some of those items on the 20% off table this week.

New Items
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Some new items in the store include scrapbooking pens in several different colors. We don’t have a lot of scrapbooking items, but we are getting in some of the basics. If we don’t have what you are looking for, we can always order things and usually have them here in about a week. We can also now get pet supplies and we just got in a real cute dog bandana for a small to medium sized dog. Last week we just got in several copies of two books about the Dutch. One is entitled “Holland Mania” and tells about a period of time when the Dutch influenced much of the culture in the United Stated (between 1880 – 1920). This book contains many pictures and is a good history of the Dutch in the U.S. The other book is entitled “Cruel Paradise” and tells the life stories of Dutch Emigrants, not only to the United States, but all over the world. A new food that we just got in are the De Ruijter Sprinkles to put on toast or ice cream. We have them in milk chocolate, dark chocolate and anise flavors.

RAGBRAI
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

On July 22 thousands of people will be gathering in Orange City to start the great bicycle ride across Iowa the next morning. They just announced this the evening of January 21 in Des Moines, Iowa. RAGBRAI stands for the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. This is a ride across Iowa that a couple of people who worked for the Des Moines Register started 45 years ago. It usually brings people from all over the world and they ride from the west end of the state to the east end in a week. RAGBRAI has gone through Orange City before, but it has never started here before. I’ll try to add more information in our next newsletter. This is actually pretty big news for our little town. According to news, this will be one of the easiest routes they have ever taken in terms of miles and of feet climb. Participants will peddle 411 miles and have 13, 078 feet of climb for the third easiest totals in RAGBRAI history.

Christmas Party Celebrated in January
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

On January 21 all those associated with Jubon Juweelen celebrated their Christmas party in the newly remodeled restaurant that used to be the Old Hatchery. It is now called the Orange City Downtown Grille and it is a beautiful place. The kitchen has been completely redone and the building has been extended 60 feet to the north. We had dinner in a private room with a lovely fireplace. Two brothers from New York are the chefs and everything was wonderful. It is actually not officially open yet, but Tonya Johnson, the manager said they needed a few parties on which to practice. I’m thinking of reserving a spot for next year’s Christmas party soon, because I’m sure once people eat there, reservations will fill up fast.
