Estate Sale in Progress
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Our second estate sale of the year started this past Monday. We have six tables full of “new” things to our store. One table is full of nice bedding including a king sized comforter with a matching skirt, two pillow shams and a pillow. Another table is full of books from a retiring teacher. Although over half of them have been sold already. Another table is full of toys from the late ‘60s or early ‘70s, such as Fisher Price, Kenner and Weebles. A fourth table has lovely crystal and pewter and two tables have many odds and ends with some very collectible pieces including a Carrom board in almost perfect condition. On Saturday, June 25, the prices will start to go down on all estate sale items. They will go down 10% an hour until 2:00 p.m. when they all reach 50% off. That’s where they will stay for the next several weeks. We’ll keep the items out until people lose interest in them, probably about five or six weeks.

Summer concerts
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Summer concerts are in full swing. They are held each Wednesday evening in our Central Park at 7:00 p.m. So far, the weather has been very nice. People bring lawn chairs or blankets and sit and listen to our local band and othe musical groups. Jubon Juweelen has helped sponsor one of the concerts this year.

Arts on Central
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Coming on August 24 will be our second annual Arts on Central. Last year over 3,000 and we had all kinds of activities including musicians playing around town, live mannequins, artistic demonstrations, etc. The street in front of Jubon Juweelen will be blocked off, too, this year, so that we can move activities to the middle of the street. Activities take place between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. with the Omaha Street Percussion performing in the band shell from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Most of the businesses participate. We were hoping to put up a tent, but found that you have to drill holes in the cement to make sure it doesn’t blow away. The city engineer was not fond of putting holes in the new cement that was just laid last summer. So, unless we can figure out another way to put up a tent and make sure that it doesn’t blow away, we’ll have to figure out some other festive things to do in the middle of the street.

Juliana Korver to compete at the WFDF US Open
By Owner: Bonnie Meier with help from her daughter Juliana Korver

Juliana Korver, our own disc golfer, will be defending her US Open title in Santa Cruz, CA the week of July 4th. In this context, the US Open is a World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) sanctioned event that is held every even year. On odd years, WFDF holds the Overall World Championships. Last year the Overall World Championships were held in Norrkoping, Sweden. Juliana won a very closely contested overall title last year in Sweden. She is also the reigning US Open Champion and hopes to defend her title in Santa Cruz.

WFDF overall events consist of 7 disc events: Disc Golf, distance, accuracy, self caught flight, discathon, Double Disc Court, and Freestyle. After Sweden last year, Juliana decided to dedicate 12 months to Freestyle as she had done very little in this discipline at the time. In doing so, she has found a new Frisbee love. Freestyle is an artistic, subjectively judged event where competetors play in pairs and are judged on difficulty, execution and style while they spin the disc on their finger and do "tricks" with the Frisbee. It is a beautiful sport that has completely captured her attention. She will be putting all her practice to the test in August when she competes in the Freestyle Player's Association (FPA) World Championships in New York City. People wonder why we carry discs in the store. It is because of Juliana’s influence on our inventory.
