Tulip Festival: May 19-21
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Discover the Dutch in Orange City, Iowa on May 19, 20 and 21. Due to this year's weather conditions, there may not be many Tulips to greet you, but there will still be many activities to keep you busy. This is the busiest time of the year for our store in that many of our products are directly related to the Dutch traditions of Orange City. We have a very wide selection of wooden shoes, both plain, red mill, the traditional farmers deco and also some carved wedding shoes. We have a large selection of Delft, both old and new and many Dutch pictures and souvenirs. We have some great new orange soccer balls, both small ones and official size; small Dutch purses, tulip handled umbrellas and all kinds of cookies and candies made in Holland.

The Festival will have activities for all ages including a fly-in breakfast and Kiwanis road race on Saturday morning. The Straat Feest starts at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Volksparade. The night show this year is “West Side Story” and it is always a treat. The rest of the activities are listed in our annual brochure. It would take our whole newsletter to list them all, however, if you would like a brochure just call 712-737-8920 and we would be happy to send you one or several, if you want to give some away. You can also find a list of activities on the website: octulipfestival.com.

The carnival with kids rides will again be located right outside our front door. We will be open extended hours during the Festival. We will be open as long as there appears to be people who want to come to our store. We would like to invite everyone who receives our newsletter to visit Orange City during the Tulip Festival. You won't be disappointed. However, if you want to see beautiful tulips, you might want to come a couple of weeks earlier.

Innova Discs and Juliana Korver
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Juliana Korver will be visiting our store on April 30th. Stop by to talk about disc selection or disc golf. We will also be receiving a new order of Innova discs before this newsletter goes out and Juliana will be bringing a few discs with her that she no longer needs and they will be added to our inventory. Also, come check out the handful of specially stamped discs we have that have become known as the 5x2's. They commemorate Juliana's previous 5 PDGA World Championship titles as well as her more recent 2 World Flying Disc Federation Overall World Championship titles. Juliana will be defending her title in July in Santa Cruz, CA as she tries to go for a third Overall world title.

Estate Sale ends soon
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

We have had a good estate sale going on for the last few weeks. We had four people bring in approximately 100 items each and we had a large variety including some antiques, dolls and nice decorative items. We did come down to 50% off and the last week (April 25 – 30) we will come down to 60% off. At the end of that week all items from the estate sale will go away. Don't let this opportunity slip away, if you've seen anything you were interested in from this estate sale, you must get it before April 30 or it won’t be here anymore. Our next estate sale will probably be sometime in June. No specific dates have been set yet.

Whimsey
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

A new store has opened in Orange City called Whimsey. Sue Reagan is the proprietor and she has done a wonderful job of renovating a building that used to be used for a recycling center. She has cleaned it up, painted it and redecorated it so that it is a delightful little shop. It is located at 212 Second Street NE about a block and a half south and east of Jubon Juweelen. She advertises as New and Renewed Home Décor, Crafts, Antiques, Metal Art and more. Her hours are Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Her card states “Additional hours/days by chance”. Sue occasionally has vendors’ booths from all over located in the large area in front of her business. We hope to work together for a “Hop and Shop” sometime in the future. It is good to have a unique business come to our little town because it just gives people one more reason to visit our interesting community.

Perusing our Guest Book
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

Since our last newsletter we have had people sign our guest book from Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and all over Iowa. Many did not put their address, but just their name, so we can’t tell where they are from. We didn’t have anyone sign from another county, which is unusual. Those putting their e-mail address will receive our once a month newsletter.
