Serendipity
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Several weeks ago Doc Neumann, my husband, Lee, and I were on our way home from Sioux Falls when we saw a beautiful black horse running as fast as he could with a saddle on, but no rider. We turned down the road from where we saw the horse coming and found a gentleman walking toward us. We asked if he belonged to the horse and when he said he did, we asked him to get in. We took him home and there was the horse standing in the yard and a very worried wife wondering where her husband was. In the meantime, we found that the man we picked up was a skilled artist named Jacob Van Wyk. Jacob was born in the Netherlands and just retired from teaching at Dordt College in Sioux Center. He has been working in the graphic mediums of Drawing, Printmaking, and Painting for the past 40 years and has his own studio on his yard. He received his B.A. from Calvin College in 1973 and his M.F.A. from Western Michigan University in 1976. He has also been active as a professional artist in Photography, Painting, Sculpture, and Ceramics. We now have many of his prints and pottery for sale in our store. You can read more about Jake on his website at jakevanwyk.com He is a very interesting person and we feel lucky to have met him.

AADAS
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

We learn many things from our customers. One of the most interesting lately is about AADAS or the Association for the Advancement of Dutch-American Studies. The Mission Statement of AADAS is "to encourage research and nurture a continuing interest in the history, life, and culture of the Dutch in North America. The Association may analyze and describe the development of religious and governmental institutions, industry, science and the arts, education, and North American Netherlandic relations; and it may publish and distribute information concerning the same. The Association shall also serve as a meeting ground for persons who share these interests." The organization sponsors conferences during which time they share many interesting papers concerning Dutch in America. You can join the organization by going to their website at www.aadas.nl

Adidas, not to be mistaken with AADAS
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

(Shameless bragging about my daughter to follow.) Juliana Korver was just awarded sponsorship from Adidas Outdoor. She is now one of their grassroots athletes. Juliana was noticed by Adidas because of her many disc golf and Frisbee accomplishments. She is a 5 time Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Women's World Champion who has transitioned into Frisbee overall events where she has now earned 2 consecutive World Championship overall titles.

To understand what the Frisbee overall is, think heptathalon. There are 7 Frisbee related events in which competitors earn points to determine the overall winner. If you would like to get a feel for the 7 events that make up the overall, you can do so at Juliana's Website. If you would like to keep up with her Frisbee freestyle practice progress videos, you do so by following her on Instagram or check out her YouTube Channel. To purchase some of the cool clothing that Juliana will be sporting, go to Adidas Outdoor
