Jewelry Sale This week, February 22 – 27 Jubon Juweelen is having a jewelry sale featuring Jewelry by Juliana, vintage jewelry and watches. Juliana has made some beautiful hand made jewelry. If you buy a necklace this week you will receive a pair of earrings (of equal or lessor value) FREE. The same with a bracelet made by Juliana. Buy a bracelet and choose a ring (of equal or lessor value) FREE. We have a new line of jewelry that is hidden in a lovely candle. These are great for gifts. Pick out a candle or tart and when the wax is burned down you will find a necklace or ring wrapped inside. We also have several new and used watches. They will all be 15% off just for this week. Picture Sale Our next promotion will start February 29 and run through March 5. It will feature all of the pictures in our store. We have a variety of prices available from very inexpensive to several originals, both oils and watercolors. All pictures will be 15% off their posted price. This is a first for us and may not happen again for a long time, if ever. A very nice original that we have for sale is entitled "At the Hearth" by Freerk (Fred) Reinders. Fred is a Dutch artist who immigrated to the United States in 1893 when he was 19 years old. This picture is oil on Masonite and was created in 1956, three years before his death. The picture is 28" wide by 20" tall. His pictures rarely come up for sale or auction by private parties. Most of his notable paintings are owned by the Sioux County Courthouse and can be seen and are on permanent display in the main floor lobby. They have been on the main floor since 1914 and on the lobby’s west wall since 1920. Other notable pieces include some original oils by Harriet Nordby. Harriet was born Harriet Schoep in Sioux County in 1933. She died in 2010 at the age of 76 in Brainard, Minnesota. She painted in a style call Contemporary Realism. She also painted under the name Sabrina Grey. Our largest picture by Harriet is a 22" x 30" oil in a beautiful frame depicting two young ladies with a piano and sells for $1500. Another oil is approximately 24" x 20" in a very ornate frame in wines and whites with a lot of texture and sells for $600. We also have a couple of prints selling for much less. We have some watercolor tulips by Molly Van Roekel, a recent graduate of painting from the Memphis College of Art and they sell for $150. We have some beautiful works by Judy Thompson, but more about her later. We have many, many prints, mostly with Dutch scenes, that sell from just a few dollars to around $30 - $50. We also have some unique pieces of lace framed. If you can't come in, give us a call, and we'll send you pictures via e-mail. We also send UPS. Estate Sale Our next estate sale will start March 21. We haven't had an estate sale for some time and we already have several people signed up to bring things in. We never know what will show up at these sales, but they are always very interesting. We try to add approximately 400 items to our inventory for these sales, but after a couple of weeks, they leave our store one way or another. Spring Open House Spring Open House will run from April 20 – 23. This will be a city wide sale and we hope to make it special by bringing in artist Judy Thompson who will demonstrate her painting techniques and have several of her pictures for sale at that time. This is still tentative, but we’re hoping that Friday, April 22 will work for her. You can view her work on the website judythompsonwatercolors.com Judy also has a wonderful electronic poster on her site that she prepared for the 2012 Great Plains Symposium. She won an award at the symposium for the "Creative Use of Media. It is fascinating and beautiful to watch. Tulip Festival Extravaganza Orange City will be holding their Extravaganza March 16th, at which time the Queen and her court will model their Dutch costumes for the 76th Annual Tulip Festival. The event will start at 11:45 a.m. and last for one hour. There will be a noon luncheon and program. Tickets can be purchased at the Tulip Festival office for $15 until March 4 after which they will be $20 each. Jubon Juweelen has again purchased a table and most of the ladies who work here will be attending. We will again have a few extra seats for which we will have a drawing. We had a great time last year with several of our customers joining us. You can register once with every invoice, no matter how big or small the purchase. We will draw names on March 11. Timeshare for Sale Since 1997 our family has used a four star timeshare every other year to get together. It is located in Orlando, Florida across from the Convention Center and not far from Disney World. However, it can be traded for many other locations and the last two times we used it, we went to Mesa, Arizona. We kept purchasing additions and now we own one unit for four weeks or four units (that sleeps 16) for one week. Since Juliana now owns a lovely rental house in San Diego, we decided that this might be the time to sell our timeshare. If anyone would like more details, please call 712-737-8930 or email me at jubonjuweelen@gmail.com. Perusing our Guest Book The weather since our last newsletter hasn't been very conducive to having a lot of out of town visitors. We still have several feet of snow in our front yard even though it is in the 50s today. However, we have still had visitors from Massachusetts, Minnesota, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and all over Iowa. We have a license game that we sell here at the store that shows all our states. We are going to put it by our guest register and every time we get someone to sign from a new state this year, we will show that state’s capital. Let's see if we can every capital showing by the end of December. | |||||||
