Jubon Juweelen turns 6
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

On November 7, 2016 we will start our 7th year (1843rd day) in business. According to information gathered from a website called info graphics, 50% of American small businesses close shop within their first year. Actually, I thought the statistics were even higher than that. The article also stated that in 2010, 79.4% of small business owners had no other employees beside themselves and most had fewer than 20. Also according to the article the best place for a small business to thrive is Austin, Texas and the second is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. These cities are followed by Denver, Colorado; Raleigh, North Carolina; Salt Lake City, Utah; Durham, North Carolina; Seattle, Washington; Houston, Texas; New York City, New York and San Jose, California.

Not only is Iowa not mentioned, neither are any of the surrounding states. So, it looks like we are defying a lot of odds by still being in business after all this time. We have no intentions of closing our doors, we do have employees (although no full time ones) and we aren’t located in an ideal spot for small businesses. However, we enjoy what we do and we hope our customers do, too.

On November 3, 4, and 5 we will celebrate with our 6th birthday party. We hope that many of you can visit us at that time. Everything in the store will be discounted according to the discount found in the balloon you pop. They will range from 10% - 40%. You can also call in and order something and we’ll pop a balloon for you for your discount. 712-737- 8920

Halloween
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

On Monday, October 31, from noon until closing time (or until we run out of candy) Fran Muilenburg will be giving out Fruit Toffees made in Breda, Holland. Breda is a city in the southern part of the Netherlands. Breda’s history goes back over 1000 years and it is fascinating having played an important part in many wars. Children seem to love the candy (as do many of the adults around our place).

Snow blower for Sale
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

On a personal note, we have a very nice snow blower for sale. My husband and I are getting to an age where it is healthier for us to hire someone to scoop our snow than to try to do it ourselves. In the meantime, we have this wonderful snow blower that actually has been used very little. It is a Yard Machine made by MTD. It has 6 forward speeds and 1 reverse ones. It has a 5 HP engine and has a 24” sweep. We hadn’t used it much lately, so a couple of weeks ago we had it completely overhauled. It should work perfectly now. We would like to get $250 for it. If you are interested, please call 712-737- 8920. Those of you living where you don’t have snow are probably laughing right now; we still have our fair share here in Northwest Iowa.

Coming Events
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Before our next newsletter we will have several special events in the area:

November 3 – 5 Jubon Juweelen sixth birthday party

November 10 – 12 Tour of Homes for Christmas

November 15 First NISO (Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra) concert of the season entitled “Here’s the Story” with guest artist, John Balley, flutist. NISO will be celebrating 30 years this year. The concert will be held in the B.J. Haan auditorium on Dordt College Campus in Sioux Center, Iowa.

November 16 – 20 I’ll be attending Grandparent’s day at Castilleja, a girls’ school in Palo Alto, California. My oldest granddaughter is a senior this year, so this will be the last year for this activity. However, I have a younger granddaughter who is in middle school so I should have some more years to visit her school yet. My daughter, Juliana, will be there, too, so it will be some great family time.
