Win a Jubon Juweelen Gift Certificate by shopping in December
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

To encourage people to think of Jubon Juweelen when you look for Christmas gifts, we are offering a $25 gift certificate each Saturday for the three December Saturdays before Christmas. In order to be eligible for the gift certificate, you must have an invoice the week before which shows a purchase of at least $20. All invoices $20 or more the week before will be eligible for the Saturday afternoon drawing. The only stipulation is that the gift certificate must be spent by December 31 of this year. The gift certificate is also good on sales and there will be some great pre-inventory sales right after Christmas. For example, the day after Christmas all beads and findings will be 50% off. On December 28 all sewing items will be 50% off, December 29 all knitting items, December 30 all quilting items and December 31 disc golf items, games and puzzles will be 50% off. These are all just one-day sales and are meant to deplete our inventory a little so that we won't have so many things to count.

Developing Dynamic Leaders (DDL) Class to be Offered
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

Iowa State Extension will be offering a DDL class soon. We are in the planning stages now. DDL is a wonderful class that helps develop community leaders. I have taken the class twice myself and highly recommend it. The class will be offered in Sioux County and will be open to 30 – 40 participants. There are several positives about the class. One is that it helps develop a networking process among the upcoming leaders in the county. Two is that people will develop confidence in their own abilities to run for city councils, Extension boards, and other leadership positions. Three is that it puts one in touch with some of the many resources available through Iowa State University. It is amazing what is available to us, but many people do not realize it. There are many more positives. The class usually consists of around six units that are about three hours each. It often includes a meal, however, since we are still in the planning phase, those details are unavailable. The marvelous news is that we have a community leader from each of the Sioux County towns who will do the original planning. I had the privilege of putting the planning team together and everyone I asked said yes. I was overwhelmed by the positive response. We have people representing business, education, the faith community, finance, Ag, and many more areas. I helped organize an opportunity similar to this when I was a school superintendent in southwest Iowa and shortly after leaving that area, I had a man barge past my secretary into my office. My secretary was quite upset, but when I saw it was one of my classmates, I told her not to be alarmed. The tall farmer said that he had something for me and then handed me a doorknob. I asked him why and he replied, “That is for all the doors you opened for us in southwest Iowa.” That was over 20 years ago. I still have the doorknob and it still represents to me all the opportunities that Iowa State Extension can bring into every corner of our state.

Shopify on hold
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

After working with Shopify for a while we have decided to wait until spring to see if we really want to go this route. It looks like it is going to take more time than we have at this busy time of the year. We may take another look at this later, but for now Shopify is on the back burner. (Shopify is an on-line shopping catalog). If anyone does want to order something from us, they can check out our web site (jubonjuweelen.biz) to see the types of things available, or check out our Facebook, then give us a call (712-737-8920) or e-mail (bonnie@jubon.biz) and, since we ship UPS right from our store, we will send you whatever you need.

Jubon Juweelen is 5 years old
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

It is hard to believe that we have been in business for over five years already. According to Forbes/Entrepreneurs magazine 80% of new businesses fail within the first 18 months. We are well past that. We were pleased that we had people from a wide area attend our birthday party. It is the only time all year that everything in our store is on sale. We look forward to our 6th birthday party almost a year from now.
