New Closing Hours on Wednessdays The merchants who belong to the Orange City Chamber of Commerce have had several meetings discussing what time stores should close on Wednesday evenings. In the past, Jubon Juweelen has closed at 8:13 p.m. However, most of the merchants said that they did not have many customers come in after 7:00 p.m. That will be especially true this summer as our concert series in the park is now starting at 7:00 p.m. Therefore, it was decided by the Chamber that the recommended closing time on Wednesday evenings would be 7:00 p.m., effectively immediately. We are going to join the rest of the businesses and we are now closing at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. We would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of the free concerts in the park. On June 25th the Orange City Area Community Band will be performing. Tom Forkenbrock of Chicago, former trumpeter in the U.S. Army Band & ’88 Olympics will be featured. On July 2nd Exit 113 will perform. This is a classic rock & roll group from Des Moines. On July 9 the Orange City Area Community Band will perform again. This is after the community appreciation meal where the city serves a wonderful free meal to all who come. City employees and the city council serve this. Then on July 16 Festival Latino begins at 5:00 p.m. with activities like face paining, fingernail painting, a bouncy castle and more, will be offered in Windmill Park. Mexican food will be sold and a Latino musical group will perform. Then on July 23 the Chris O’Leary Band will perform. This is a 6-piece blues band from New York. They won the 2011 Memphis “Blues Music Award.” This will follow Revival’s pet costume contest. Sewing Supplies Featured the rest of June Leonard Blok fixes sewing machines. You can drop them off at our store and pick them up here again. He charges a base fee of $20 to adjust tension and clean up your machine. If he needs to put new parts in, he calls you first to make sure you want to put a little more money into it. This month he has brought a very old restored machine to feature in our store window. To celebrate sewing this month, we are taking 20% off any sewing, knitting or quilting supplies through the end of June. We always give a 10% discount on all notions, if you purchase an Orange City Chamber card, however, this month you can take advantage of the extra savings through our special promotion. NOTE: Leonard is not here in the winter, so be sure and bring your machines in before September. Estate Sale Coming Soon July 24, 25, and 26 will be our next estate sale. We are already gathering items. We try to limit the sale to 400 “new” items to our store. Some of the items already consigned are some beautiful pink depression glass plates (Old Florentine #1), some beautiful glassware from Vietnam and a bride doll. Many, many more items to come. Enjoy your Summer We hope that all our customers have an enjoyable and safe summer. The city is tearing up streets a block from us and will be pouring new concrete (if it ever stops raining). They will be doing the street in front of our store next summer. We are already planning on how we can continue to serve you when this happens. We have a little less than a year to plan. Perusing our guest book This past month we have had people sign our guest book from South Dakota, North Dakota, Tennessee, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Maine, Arizona, and all over Iowa. In addition we have had several people from Liverpool, United Kingdom and Sassenheim, The Netherlands. A comment made by one of the Dutch people, “Funny to see so many Dutch things here in the U.S.” Two ladies from Minnesota said they had come to our little store because of an article they read in “The Land”. The Land is a newspaper published in Mankato, Minnesota and has a circulation of 20,789 throughout Minnesota and Iowa. Renae Vander Schaaf wrote an article about Jubon Juweelen last month and it has had a very positive response. Thank you, Renae. | |||
