Tulip Festival a Big Success
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

Even though most of the tulips were not in full bloom, the 74th Annual Tulip Festival was a great success. Jubon Juweelen had three book signings during the festival. On Thursday Renae Vander Schaff and her niece Julianna signed A Place of Refuge. On Friday Hadley Hoover signed her books. Hadley has written three series of books and continues to write. On Saturday Karen Schwaller signed her book The Dirt.

We were lucky to have Juliana, my daughter, (the Ju of Jubon) help on Friday and Saturday. Juliana is living in California and was a great help and learned how to write her first invoice on Friday as well as giving advice on disc golf. Big sellers were the Dutch hats, both boys and girls, and of course, Delft items. We also sold several of Judy Thompson’s beautiful watercolors, two of which were sent to South Carolina and one to Texas. Next year Orange City will celebrate its 75th Tulip Festival ad plans are starting already.

Books, Books, Books
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

Jon Boone, my uncle, was a college librarian most of his life and loves books. He lives in Rapid City and came to Orange City to enjoy the Tulip Festival. He also brought along boxes and boxes of "new" books for our store. They are all good quality books and are priced reasonably. They include mystery, fiction, non-fiction and even a child’s book. They are featured on our front table. I’ve already picked out several that I want to read before they go back on the table.

Speaking of Books
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

Sometime ago a lady from Sioux City asked if we had a postcard with a certain picture on it that was taken by a New York photographer, Rene Clement. We really try hard in our little store to fulfill everyone's need, so we located Rene Clement and we now carry the postcard the lady wanted. During Tulip Festival Mr. Clement himself, walked through the door carrying a box filled with beautiful books filled with his own photography. I bought a couple to sell at the store. When I looked at the book, I said that it looked like there were some pictures of Orange City people in it. He said that the entire book was about Orange City. So I bought more. Now I have several on hand for $40 each. They really give a nice picture of the Orange City Tulip Festival.

Box Cards
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

Another new item in the store are the box cards. Donna Van Peursem is an artist in her own right. She has created a series of cards for all occasions that would be fun for anyone to give or receive. Most fold down so that they can be inserted into an envelope and sent, however, a few have flowers in that do not fold and those need to be put in a small bag and presented by hand. They sell for $5.50 each and are very unique. We are happy to be offering these to our customers.
