WWII, Letters Home from Ralph
By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

Lee and Bonnie Meier are finally concluding a project they have been working on for several years. It all started years ago when Bonnie was working out at Curves with Sandi Carlson, Ralph Mouw’s daughter, who mentioned that she had all her father’s letters that were written while he served in the Army from 1941 – 1945. Bonnie thought the letters should be preserved and copied them all and then had Lee add commentary in-between letters so people could follow the history that was happening at that time. The result is a book that is in the process of being published. We can’t give the exact date that it will be available, but it is in the hands of the publisher now, and it should be available within the next couple of months. We’ll let you know when it actually comes out.

Meet & Greet for Sam Clovis

By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

From 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1st, Sam Clovis will be at Jubon Juweelen to meet and greet people. Dr. Clovis is a Republican Candidate for the U.S. Senate. Senator Harkin has decided to retire and there will be a primary to decide who will be the Republican running to fill his Senatorial seat. Since there are many running for this position, it is important to meet the candidates so that you can make an informed choice. If you decide that you would like to come and meet him, please RSVP to Kolby DeWitt at 712-212-4711 or e-mail kolby@SamClovis.com.

Of course the store will remain open and anyone coming at that time will be welcome. I like to think of our little store as a place similar to Ben Franklin’s shop where Ben and his friends, Longfellow and Thoreau, etc. would gather around the stove and discuss the problems of the world. We welcome anyone to come around 3:00 every afternoon to join our Ben Franklins, and help solve the world’s problems.

Perusing through our guest book

By Co-Owner Bonnie Meier

Customers signing our guest book this past month include people from Oklahoma, Michigan, South Dakota and several Iowa communities. Repeat customers don’t sign the book and I think some are worried about getting on mailing lists. Once spring comes and the weather warms up a little, we should see more activity.
