Estate Sale

Our 3rd estate sale began yesterday. Almost 400 new items were added to our inventory. We added a couple of tables and filled them with antiques including old toys, such as tinker toys and blocks; beautiful glassware including Tiffany, Fenton, and Murano and collectibles including Precious Moments and nursery tale treasure boxes. We also have a collection of Japanese articles, blue Wedgwood, blue and white Delft, and old tools. The sale will be featured through this Saturday. Leftover items will be kept around for a little while, but if you want a good choice, you might want to come as soon as possible.

Beaded Items from Bali

Jubon Juweelen prides itself in offering unique items that are hard to find in most Iowa businesses. Our newest unique items include a grouping of beaded baskets from the Island of Bali. These baskets preserve the ancient work that started thousands of years ago by Bali natives. Some of the baskets take months to make. Bali is situated in the middle of the world’s largest archipelago. It is Indonesia’s most well-know island and has a unique culture. It is sometimes referred to as the Island of the Gods.

Our 1000th Day Coming Soon

Netherlanders in America by Jacob Van Hinte

Jubon Juweelen features several Dutch books and one of the best is Netherlanders in America by Jacob Van Hinte. If you ever wanted to know about the Dutch in the United States, this book is one of the best (maybe the best). Jacob Van Hinte visited the United States in the 20s and reported on the status and history of the Dutch coming to the United States. He goes into detail about the founding of Holland, Michigan and all the communities around. He also goes into detail about how Pella was started and he devotes a whole chapter to Sioux County. One must keep in mind when reading that when Van Hinte says to the present day, he means in the 20s. He goes into great detail about the church and tells when the Christian Reformed Church split from the RCA around 1857. It is not like reading a mystery novel, but it is extremely interesting if you are interested in how Orange City and most of Sioux County came about. I’m only a little over ½ way through, but I’m really learning a lot. We have several copies at the store and they sell for $39.95. Guests this month (who signed the book) came from Montana, all over Iowa, California, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Indiana and one from Zuid, Holland. We don’t always remember to ask our customers to sign, but we like it when they do.
