Estate Sale

Our second estate sale is in progress as we are writing this letter. We added almost 400 new items to our store. Thursday and Friday the items sold for the designated price and on Saturday they came down 10% the first hour, 20% the second and progressed 10% an hour until they were 50% off. We will keep the items in the store at 50% off for a couple of weeks hoping to move most of them. We are anticipating having another estate sale toward the end of January 2014.

Consignment Contributors

Currently we have 42 different people supplying either antiques or artistic items to Jubon Juweelen. One of our first and steadiest suppliers is my Uncle Jon Boone who lives in Rapid City, South Dakota. Jon and his wife, Nila, both served as university librarians for most of their working lives. They chose to retire in Rapid City, South Dakota and have been very active in their senior citizen center. They have organized the book sales for the Center for years and Jon was named Rapid City’s Senior Citizen of the month last year. Jon and Nila have a great knowledge of good literature and have contributed greatly to the used books that we sell at Jubon Juweelen. Jon also attends many auctions in South Dakota and Nebraska and sends us unique antiques periodically throughout the year. Imperial, Nebraska has a Labor Day Community Auction that is a huge event and often supplies a few items for our store. One of the most interesting items Jon brought was a very old piece of a plow blade found on a Nebraska farm. It sold quickly to a man from California whose sister displayed old metal objects on her back fence. We appreciate the help that Jon and Nila have given Jubon Juweelen both with our books, antiques and unique stones.

Jubon Juweelen's 3rd Birthday Party November 8 - 10

The only storewide sale of the year will be coming up November 8, 9 and 10. We will continue with the tradition of filling the store with balloons. The red ones will all contain discounts between 10% and 40 %. All items in the store except for a couple of specially marked items will be eligible for the discounts. Pick out the items you want to purchase; pop a balloon and the discount will be applied. It is the only time all year that we have a storewide sale. It’s also a good time to start shopping for unique and one of a kind Christmas presents.

New Items

Some of the new items that we will be getting in soon for Christmas include charming baby toys from the Moulin Roty collection. These little animals are expertly designed in France using only the finest French fabrics and materials available. Some designs capture the charms of a bygone era while others are based on the most current avant-garde designs. The toys are made of very soft materials and make excellent gifts for babies and young children. We will be getting a dozen different toys including rabbits, court jester dolls, bears, dragons and mice. Several are in the form of hand puppets. Most will be machine washable. We will only be getting in one of a kind, so come early for first pick. We will also be getting a couple of dozen new Dill buttons. Juliana and I brought some back from the CHA convention in Chicago that we attended some time ago and they have been very popular with customers. You will have a much wider selection with the new shipment. We also have a pallet load of new stuff coming from our Dutch supplier including Chocolate Dutch letters, which we haven’t carried before, and several kinds of Dutch candies. Perusing through our guest book

Since our last newsletter (August 24) we have had people sign the guest book from Colorado, Minnesota, Washington, Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota, Alabama, Michigan, Louisiana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Oregon, North Carolina and many locations in Iowa. Not everyone signs the guest book and some that do don’t put their addresses down. I think our local Chamber of Commerce would be amazed to see how many people come to Orange City because of the quaintness of our community. Many do not even have any connections here, such as relatives to visit. Many do come because of the Dutch connection, however, and most seem to have some Dutch relatives in their background. One family came from North Dakota, but had been raised in New Zeeland and their parents had been born in Holland. If you want to have a good geography lesson, just peruse through our Guest Book.
