Tuesday Morning Knitting/Crocheting Group

Shortly after Jubon Juweelen opened in November 2010, Sharon Rens approached me and asked if she could come every Tuesday morning and just sit and knit or crochet and, in turn, help anyone who would like to join her. Sharon also spins her own yarn and teaches a class through North Iowa Community College at her house on spinning. Anyway, through the years the group has grown. Everyone is welcome and we have had girls as young as 10 join the group and as old as – not wanting to ask their age. However, on January 15 we had a lady join for a very unique reason. She said that she had moved to Orange City within the last year from a major city. She said that our obituaries are so much more detailed than city obituaries. She was afraid she wouldn’t have an interesting one if she didn’t join some type of group, so she came to learn to knit and/or crochet so that she could put it in her obituary. – We welcome all – no matter what the reason.

Bridal Fair at orange city event center

By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

On Saturday, January 19, Orange City held their 3rd annual bridal fair. However, it was in a new location this time – in our beautiful new Event Center, Prairie Winds. The upstairs was filled with vendors’ booths and in the downstairs tables and chairs were set up for the more than 80 brides who had registered for the show along with their families. Jubon Juweelen gave away a personalized Delft tile to Kelsie Calkhoven from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Kelsie will marry Nicholas Vander Zwaag on May 10, 2013. Future brides and their families came from four states to see the latest things in weddings. They could sit at the tables on the main floor and make plans then come up to the vendors and make arrangements for food, cloths, jewelry, pictures, flowers, gifts, cakes, hair stylists, reception locations, honey moon vacations – just about anything needed for a wonderful wedding. How handy to have everyone in one location.

featuredArtist: Nathaniel De jong

By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier

A very talented young man is our featured artist for January and February. Nathaniel specializes in leather pyrography, painting and scratch art. Most of his items have a wildlife theme although he can draw anything. You can see his products on facebook at Nathaniel De Jong’s artwork or e-mail him at nathanieldejongart@gmail.com. You can also see some of his work on Jubon Juweelen’s facebook page. In keeping with Nathaniel’s theme our front window has taken on a western theme. The main feature is a buggy seat with advertising from Cambier Brothers, Orange City, IA painted on the back. The window also features two old crank style telephones, one of which actually works (it contains a newer telephone inside) and two little pair of very old, worn out western boots. They belonged to Lee and Bonnie Meier when they were each about 6 or 7 years old. Both Lee and Bonnie loved cowboys and wore the boots until they outgrew them. Other items in the window include a shiny copper wash boiler, a John Deere light, plus several other interesting items.

Friends of jubon juweelen

Introduction By Co-Owner: Bonnie Meier
Article By:Idelle Vogel

Jubon Juweelen has been blessed with many good friends. Each month we will introduce you to one of them. One of our substitute employees and one of our main contributors to consignments is Idelle Vogel. Idelle introduces herself:

It was exciting to hear when Jubon Juweelen was opening that they would be having an “Antique Corner”. When asked to participate I was pleased to be able to showcase some of my “Dutch” antiques. I had been involved with antiques since the early 70’s, first just collecting for myself, but finding that as all collections grow in size, some areas had to be downsized in order to grow others. Antique shops, shows, eBay and a home-based outlet became the means. Of course, as you sell you need to continue to add! Now I am at the point of being more selective in purchases and choosing with certain customers in mind. With the recent retirement of both my husband and myself antiques will continue to be an enjoyable hobby, not only in selling, but looking for that elusive item, to complete a set or a collection.
