Hawkey Center

By Co-Founder: Bonnie Meier

On the corner of 1st and Central on the Orange City Jubon map you will see a hardhat that opens a billboard that says Future home of the Hawkeye Center. That Hawkeye Center is getting closer to completion each day. Currently workmen are on the top story and shaping the Dutch fronts. The main floor is completely enclosed and windows are being installed. It is going to be an impressive building. The second floor consists of the Hawkeye Center Main Street Lofts. These are one and two bedroom condos that include a fully equipped kitchen, quality floorings and fixtures, ample storage and two underground parking spots. Project completion date is June 2011. Two of the apartments are still available for sale. Three have been sold already.

By the time Orange City celebrates its Tulip Festival in May the outside of the building should be completed. We are not sure what retail businesses will be going in the main floor although we have heard lots of speculation. Whatever goes in it will be a plus for the retail business sector of Orange City. This is the first phase of the Phoenix Project that rose from the ashes of the terrible fire two and a half years ago..

Jubon Enters Team in Live Healthy Iowa

By Co-Founder: Bonnie Meier

Jubon has entered a team in the "Live Healthy Sioux County" program which is part of the Live Healthy Iowa program. The purpose is to give people incentives for healthier living including exercise, weight loss and healthy eating habits. Competitors record participation in activities lasting longer than 5 minutes and can include stretching, strengthening and/or a cardiovascular type activity. This can also include recreational or sport types of activities. Any home type activity that elevates heart rate can also be included, such as pushing a lawn mower or shoveling snow. We cannot include any activities, which are a part of our normal job requirements. The idea is to get participants to exercise beyond their normal routine. As captain of the team, my goal is to lose 20 pounds in the 100 days of our program.
