Welcome to Pumpkin Land

By Co-Founder: Bonnie Meier

Welcome to Pumpkin Land, one of the newest members of the Jubon family. Pumpkin Land began accidentally after the Huitink family cut some corn stalks and arranged some pumpkins in their country yard for fall decorations. Several people stopped to see if they could purchase pumpkins or gourds. So in 1989 they actually did offer them for sale. Now, 21 years later, Pumpkin Land is a fall destination spot for people all over NW Iowa and beyond. The business has evolved into a corn maze, petting zoo, unique fall fest of autumn produce, crafts and fun for the whole family. They sell pumpkins, squash, gourds, ornamental corn, homemade baked goods, jams, jellies, preserves, pumpkin and fruit butter, crafts, fall decorations, and carving kits. The corn maze is fascinating and is first designed on a grid and then mowed in the corn. This year the maze is a PT Cruiser. The Huitnik’s have three children, two live close by and help with the business and one lives in San Francisco. Pumpkin Land is open from 10:00 a.m. – dark Monday – Saturday in September and October and is located 2 ¾ miles north of Orange City.

Jubon Getting Closer to Moving to New Office

By Co-Founder: Bonnie Meier

Jubon is getting closer to moving to its downtown location. In fact this week new carpet is being laid. Last week Bonnie painted the office. The office will officially be moved when the Internet connection is officially installed. The new sign will be a large Jubon8 (little red car) pulling several wooden shoes. Russ Vande Steeg, a retired electrical engineer who worked during his college days as a sign painter, is painting them. Last month we said that the address would be 109 3rd Street NE, however, we found that the official address will be 107 3rd Street NE. Both addresses were formerly used in the building, but the city has the last word and they say 107.
