December contest

By Co-Founder: Bonnie Meier

Your administrators are all involved in a Holiday contest to promote coupons for the Holiday season. You can help them out by giving them a call or by going directly to the coupon section on the Jubon web site. If you are not a retail store, you can get creative with your coupons. Dr. Giddings, president of North Iowa Community College, said that they give a free tee shirt for a tour of the campus. That would make a good coupon. See how creative you can get. There is no charge to put a coupon on. Take advantage of the opportunity.

New sites

By Co-Founder: Bonnie Meier

One and a half years ago Orange City had a devastating fire that destroyed three good businesses. Since then a group of city leaders have been putting together ideas that have resulted in the Phoenix Project. This project consists of Five Phases of which two are represented on the Orange City map by hard hats. If you go to the Orange City site and drive to the hard hats, you can see what some of the future plans for the community holds.

NEW LOOK FOR CATEGORIES MENU

By Co-Founder: Juliana Korver

There is a new feature on Jubon. Well, maybe not exactly a new feature... more of a face-lift for one of the drop down menus.

Previously, if you clicked on the categories link in the menu bar you would see a box with three columns of possible categories. The categories allow you to find specific types of businesses and organizations more quickly. If no categories are checked then you will not see any icons on the map other than the Jubon 8 (the car). For obvious reasons all categories are checked by default every time you open the map. But if you want to locate something quickly then you can click the "Hide All" button and then select the category you are interested in. Not only will this affect the icons on the screen but it will also filter the items in the Quick Find menu.

Now, let's get to the changes. They are purely cosmetic. The three column box was a little overwhelming so I have reorganized it using an accordion type menu. Now when you open the categories you see two buttons at the top of the box. "Show All" and "Hide All". Clicking on hide all removes all icons, and clicking on show all restores all the icons. Below the buttons there are a few instructions to point you in the right direction. Underneath those you will see five sections (this could increase in the future). If you click on one of the sections it will expand to show you all of the associated categories. Each category is preceded by a check box. If a check appears in the box, then any businesses or organizations listed under that category will appear on the map.

So once you open a section you can pick and choose which of the categories should be displayed. If you want to see categories in other sections, click on that section's title. Your current section will slide closed and the new section will slide open displaying the new list of categories.

When you are finished making your selections, you can close this menu in a number of ways. You can simply click on the map and the menu will slide closed. You can once again click on the title of the menu in the menu bar. You can click on any of the other menu titles to open another menu which will automatically close this menu. Or, you can click on the "close this menu" link at the bottom of the menu.

We hope you find this change convenient.

NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE

By Co-Founders: Bonnie Meier

Another new site this month is Northwestern College. Although it only has one billboard (Zwemer Hall - where the President has his office), the rest of the campus is denoted by a shaded area. You can see that it takes up a significant space in Orange City. We are glad to have them on board as we know that many of our "treasures" have gone to Northwestern College students.

first church

By Co-Founders: Bonnie Meier

The first church to go on the Jubon site was also added this month. The American Reformed Church is represented by a white cross. Drive up to the church to link to their website and get vital information about time of service, personnel, etc.
