Letters From Ralph

book.gif

Ralph J. Mouw, a native of Orange City, Iowa, never forgot his roots - even when he was halfway across the world during World War II.

In this collection of letters, you'll find a firsthand account of what life was like during the war at home and overseas. Although letters were heavily censored during the war years, the editors have added comments to place them in context.

Sales Turn to Disc Golf
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

Now that the Tulip Festival is over our biggest sales are discs. It is the season to go out and throw some discs. We have a good selection of mainly Innova Discs, but we also have some Discraft. They are arranged on the rack with the drivers at the top, midrange in the middle and the putters on the bottom couple of racks. With the sale of each disc, you receive a free mini. However, if you just want a mini alone, the cost is $1.50.

Book Reviews
By Owner: Bonnie Meier

First a note about Renae Vander Schaaf's and my cookbook -- We just ordered another 100 because we could still get and sell them at the same price, $14.95. However, our publisher warned us that the next order will be much more expensive. So, if you still want to have a reasonably priced Dutch cookbook, you might want to order one. Renae has distributed them to quite a few different stores who are also carrying them including a few local stores and Wall Drug in South Dakota. They, actually, have sold quite a few for us.

Deus Lo Volt by Evan S. Connell.

I very seldom do this, but this is a book that I only read a little of and then put it aside. The jacket sounds like it would be a very exciting book. It means God wills it and it is the story of the Crusades that took place about 1000 years ago. However, I only got into about the second chapter and that's all it had talked about so far was killing, killing, killing. I didn't think I had to spend every day reading about that. There is enough of that on our nightly news. So maybe someone else will get into the book enough that they can get a good story out of it, but I didn't finish this book, which rarely happens. The author was born in Kansas City, Missouri and has received acolytes for some of his writing. He was a pilot during WWII and received education from Columbia and Stanford. He died in 2013.

Unreasonable Rick by Karen Hall.

This is a Hannah Morrison Mystery. I enjoyed this book very much. The author is an environmental engineer who lives with her husband and two cats win the Black Hills. She writes about an oil refinery in The Twin Cities areas. It was copywriten in 2006. It probably doesn't sound like a very exciting topic, but with all the emphasis on cost of gasoline these days, it actually was quite a timely reading. I think it was well written and held my interest to the point I wanted to read it during the day, which I usually only read in the evening. Karen Hall is an actual engineer herself and so gives a lot of credibility to the details of story.

The last two books are hard copy in very good condition and each sells for $4.00. The cookbook is a soft cover and sells for $14.95. If we have to send any of them they go through media mail and it added $3.50 to the cost.
