Straat Winkel For the past two years, Jubon Juweelen has taken over sales in the Straat Winkel that will be located just north of the Court House. Juliana, my daughter, will again be here to help. For that I am very grateful. Actually, we have quite a few relatives who will be here this year from at least five states on both coasts. Several are staying in a local bed and breakfast located in the heart of the festival activities. If things are set up the same as last year, the shoe carving demonstrations at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. will be right outside the door of the Straat Winkel. I just finished processing a large order of new Dutch items that we will be featuring this year. We don't have a lot of each item so, if you see it the first time and like it, you should purchase it quickly, because it may not be there when you come back. The new items include some orange and some black adjustable "Holland" KNVB hats, small chocolate wooden shoes, orange shopping bags with Dutch designs, Dutch birthday calendars (often called toilet calendars – ask me about that), several different Dutch key chains, three different children's wooden Dutch puzzles, some soft Dutch dolls, Dutch bottle openers, embroidered coin purses, hats, Delft rubber duckies, Dutch flags, shot glasses, Dutch napkins and some nice Dutch mug sets. Of course we always have the wooden shoes, slippers and clogs. We will also have some disc golf discs. I just sent for several more of Juliana's signiture disc. This will be your opportunity to have her sign one for you.
Future use of Original Jubon Juweelen Building We had a vendors' Fair last April 11 & 12. At this time we are not planning on any more Vendors' Fairs in the building. Next week a group of people will be discussing the Farmers' Market that will be held each week in Orange City. Plans are to expand it to include many more vendors than just the garden people. At this time, Jubon Juweelen is planning on joining them on most Saturdays with many of our products. The Chamber has been blocking off main street to make a regular holiday each Saturday morning, just like the Christmas Market in Germany. Tentative plans are to open at 10:00 a.m. and run through 1:00 p.m. Food vendors are encouraged to come so that people can eat lunch at the Market. They should be starting soon after the Tulip Festival. Therefore, we do not plan on having another Vendors' Fair in the building until fall and we anticipate the building will be sold by then.
79th Tulip Festival May 16-19 Since this is the last newsletter before our 79th Tulip Festival, I will copy the daily schedule here so that those of you who are coming to our festival can start planning your days. Our earnest prayer is for good weather. That can really make or break our festival. We had a long cold winter, but spring is in the air, the tulips are coming up and the grass is green again, so we have high hopes for three great days. Daily Schedule (this is taken right from our brochure. If anyone would like me to send you a brochure before the festival, just e-mail me at jubonjuweelen@gmail.com
7:00 am Pickle Ball is coming to Orange City A group of pickle ball fans have been meeting all winter in our old town hall. Now that the weather is getting nice, a group of us are working with the city to see about getting some outside courts put up. More on this in the next newsletter. | |||||||
