Open at New Location: 204 Iowa Ave NW On September 1, we officially moved Jubon Juweelen to 204 Iowa Avenue NW. We are using our same Open/Closed sign to let people know if we are open. For the most part we are open the same hours as we were before. However, we have had a few Wednesday nights that we have been closed for various reasons. We closed early September 19 because we had an open house at the old store to introduce people to the possibilities. I even made homemade cookies (from our Dutch cookbook) for the occasion. We had some interest shown, hopefully someone will find a home for a nice business here. We are hoping that it will be a retail enterprise. New Products Now that we are in our new location, we are starting to get our inventory in order. We were completely out of all Dutch food, but last week we got in some white peppermints and some stroopwafels. We also got in several pair of Garden Clogs, size 40 cm. That is our most common size and we are often out of them. They correspond to size 9 in US women's sizes. Parking at New Location We have a sign in front of our new location asking people to park on the right side of the driveway. So far, almost everyone who has come has parked out on the street. We have our cars out on the street so there is room for others to park on the driveway. So, if you come, please park in the driveway so you don't have to walk very far to come into our place. Zomer Auction Complete Our auction finished a few weeks ago and almost all of our notions are now gone. We have kept a few things such as knitting needles, Dill buttons and Gutermann thread. We ended up with 765 different lots. It look quite a bit longer to get ready for it than I had anticipated. The Zomer family did a nice job. I worked with a mother, son and two daughters. It was definitely a family affair. Son Home for a visit We had a real treat last week when we found out that our son from California was going to go to his cousin's wedding in LeMars and he paid us a nice visit at the same time. We spent a couple of hours cleaning out the old store and just catching up. It was great. I forget sometimes what great workers both Clint, and our daughter, Juliana, are. Clint said that people from the Midwest are valued workers in California because of their wonderful work ethic. Perusing our guestbook We were closed during the month of August to do our online auction, but opened September 1 at our new location. We started a new page in our guest book and we're asking everyone to sign in once they visit our new place. Since September 1st we have had guests from Arizona, California, Virginia and all over Iowa. We have the guest book on the pulpit we had at the store in the garage right outside the entrance to our "new" store. We are still being used as a drop off point for Renae Vander Schaaf to drop off honey or other things for her customers. In fact, the last one who came said we were much closer to her now than when we were uptown. So I think that is all going to work out fine. | |||||||
