Everything 50% off Starting this week everything in the store is 50% off. That includes our showcases, etc. too. Originally we were only going to have a 50% off sale for one week, however, we ran into a few problems scheduling our online auction so now we will run the 50% off sale for the whole month of July. We will close the store on Tuesday evening, July 31 and get ready for an online auction with everything that is left. We will give you the address to check on your computer in our July newsletter. Our goal is still to vacate the building on Friday, August 31. We will open in our new location On Saturday, September 1. At this time we plan on keeping the same hours we have observed in our current location. Those may change a little after we get used to our new location, but right now we are planning on opening at 204 Iowa Avenue NW at 10:07 a.m. September 1. We will be open until 3:13 p.m. that day. We will be closed for Labor Day, but will open again on September 4 at 10:07 a.m. At our new location we will still carry all the discs that we had at our current location (those have already moved). We will carry the Gutermann thread and we will carry books, both new and used. We will have a few other things, but we will not specialize in antiques and will not be carrying beads or notions (except for the thread). The wooden shoes are still up in the air. We are hoping to find a good home for them, preferably with whoever purchases our building so that people who are used to coming here for shoes won't be disappointed. New Location We are currently having some carpentry work completed so that our new location will be ready and welcoming as soon as we close up shop here. You will enter 204 Iowa Avenue NW either through the garage or through a south door of our garage. As long as the weather is nice, we will have our front garage door open. The new "store" will be in a room in the back of the garage. We will have some signage up by that time. We are having a Dutch door installed and I hope to have the top half open much of the time so that you can see right in. I think you will find the room very pleasant. There is actually no connection directly from there into our house. The only entrance is through the garage. We will have our guest book located on the podium right outside the Dutch door. We still hope to register our customers so that we can report where they come from in our newsletter. The room is not real large, but it is cozy and I think you will find it a pleasant place to shop. The discs are located just to the right of the Dutch door as you enter. The Gutermann thread will be just north of the discs. The books will be on the south wall and on a portable cart. We also plan on moving our jewelry tower and will include many watches, both pocket and wristwatches. Lee will be the one to visit with if you are interested in them. We will also still have the beaded items from Bali. We hope to have a lighted showcase actually in the garage that will include old pewter, Precious Moment figurines and maybe a few Dutch items. However, we will not have the broad selection of Dutch items that we currently have. We will have the Dutch items that we will be selling at the Staatwinkel at the next Tulip Festival. They will not be on display and if you are interested in those, you can call ahead of time so that I can get some out for you because most of them will be packed up waiting for the next Tulip Festival. We are undecided yet about UPS. I have to talk to a representative to see if we want to continue that service or not. We may continue for a while to see if it is worthwhile or not. We are actually looking forward to our new location. We hope to see many of you in the future. We have really enjoyed our conversations and hope we can continue to do so. Juliana does well at the US Open Overall Juliana just competed in a week long Flying Disc Overall tournament in Tallahassee, Florida The biennial event is called the US Open. The tournament consisted of seven Frisbee events and Juliana came in first place in six of the seven events with a 3rd in the 7th event. She easily won the overall and now will be dedicating her practice time to Freestyle Frisbee as she will be competing in the European Freestyle Open in Berlin in late July followed by the Freestyle World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia. Wonderful Tulip Festival On June 7 I had the privilege of attending our granddaughter's 8 th grade graduation from the Girls' Middle School in Palo Alto, California. The night before the girls gave a program in which Sophia read a piece that she wrote that really surprised me. She told about how insecure she had been when she started 6th grade there. She felt that she was behind the other girls and she didn't feel that she fit in. Sophia had been in a Spanish emersion class ever since kindergarten and even though she was fluent in Spanish, she felt behind in English. However, she told how over the three years at the school she had grown to feel confident in herself and in her abilities. It was very touching. There were 67 girls in her class and during graduation a teacher gave about a minute long presentation for each girl telling about their strengths and hope for the future. While there, I also had a chance to tour the high school she will be attending next year. She will be attending a coed school called Chrystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough, California. Perusing our guestbook Since our last newsletter we have had people sign in from Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, Washington state and all over Iowa. We have also had people from the Liverpool, England; Mexico City, Mexico and the Netherlands. | |||||||
