Estate Sale This week we started an estate sale at Jubon Juweelen. Saturday prices will start to be discounted. We come down 10% the first hour, 20% the second, until 2:00 p.m. when we come down 50%. That is where they will stay for the next four weeks or so after which, if there are items left, they will go back to the owners so that we can start getting ready for the Tulip Festival. In our newsletter last month when writing about the estate sale, I say, "hopefully, the weather will be nice by then." Well, when I was coming into work this morning, it was snowing again. The main good thing about all this snow is that we haven't seen any tulips coming up yet. Maybe this year they will be just right for the festival. That would be nice. (Last year at this time we already had weather in the 80s.) Some of the items on the estate sale include an old rocker, a Minerva doll, some very old children activities (box of stencils from the early part of last century and Ideal Sectional Birds from 1901), some animal shaped cream pitchers (some Shawnee), Cherished Teddies, Barbie dolls, weebles, doll house, doll house furniture, an old Schwinn bike, and many other things. Tulip Festival Theme "Where flowers bloom, so does hope!" The Tulip Festival this year will be May 17, 18 & 19. The weather should be nicer than last year. Last year we had three cold days and I believe they said it was the coldest festival in the last 40 years. We are hoping for beautiful weather this year and beautiful tulips. The nighttime production is "Disney's Beauty & The Beast". It will be performed for five nights, but I understand some nights are almost sold out already. So if you want tickets, please call our Chamber office at 712-707-4510. Some of the activities this year include Artburst & Authors' Corner; the carnival midway; a "Cruise In" car show on Wednesday; an antique tractor show on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; children's activities in the library; a quilt show; band awards and drum line show; a Kiwanis road race; a fly in breakfast on Saturday, a craft show; and on Sunday a community worship service. These are all in addition to the normal parade, Dutch dance and street activities. We do have the new brochures for the year and if you would like a copy just e-mail us or call 712- 737-8920 and we will send you one. We will put a more detailed daily schedule in the April newsletter. New Items This week one of our consignees put in a large napkin display. We probably have the best selection of napkins now in the area. We have a large selection of spring, Easter, Dutch and general purpose napkins, both cocktail and lunch size. The brand is Ambiente and they are made in the Netherlands. Juliana Korver competes in Prague Juliana Korver traveled to Prague in the Czech Republic this past month to participate in a Freestyle Frisbee Tournament. She and her partner, Ilka Simon from Cologne, Germany, placed first in women's pairs. She also made it to the podium with a second place finish in mixed pairs with Ryan Young from Bellevue, Washington. Click here to see Juliana's routine with Ilka or here to see her routine with Ryan. Over the last couple of years, Freestyle has become a passion with Juliana and she continues to work everyday at improving and learning this intricate sport. Freestyle Frisbee can best be described as dancing with discs. Juliana would argue that it is tricks with a frisbee, but ideally it is a combination of both the tricks done in a beautiful, flowing way to music. You can see Juliana's progress on Instagram by following @jboonek on Instagram. Remember that you can buy your own discs at our store and we do have a few freestyle discs (Discraft's SkyStyler) with Juliana's likeness on them. Perusing our Guest Book This month we will include information from the last two months since I was in San Diego during the writing of our last newsletter and didn’t have access to our guest book and License Plate Game. The past two months we had visitors from Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and all over Iowa. We also had visitors from Guatemala, Manitoba, Canada, several from South Africa, and The Netherlands. | |||||||
