Letters From Ralph

Ralph J. Mouw, a native of Orange City, Iowa, never forgot his roots - even when he was halfway across the world during World War II.

In this collection of letters, you'gll find a firsthand account of what life was like during the war at home and overseas. Although letters were heavily censored during the war years, the editors have added comments to place them in context.

Christmas Vendor's Fair December 13th

There will be a Vender's Fair located at the old Jubon Juweelen location on Thursday, December 13 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. We are excited about the possibilities as this is something new for us. We have ten slots and most are filled already. Some of the vendor's coming include: Crafts and Sew On (American Girl doll clothes), Jubon Juweelen with Christmas Candy (Dutch letters, new puzzles, and half price notions), Grandma's Fruit Juice Winery; Glitter & Rust; Silverwear Jewlery, and more. That's at 107 3 rd Street NE in Orange City, Iowa. That is also the first evening in Orange City that most of the stores will be open for Christmas hours. The chamber will be having some special events that evening, too, tentitively including sleigh rides. Let's hope for wonderful weather.

Dutch Letters and other Dutch treats

Dutch letters are here as well as chocolate gold medallions and Salted Caramels. We are open most days, but have a little sign in front of the garage that states open or closed so just by driving past you can see if we are open. I'm usually in a little room at the back end of the garage. If you don't see someone ready to help you, come to the Dutch door and I'll be sitting in a nice, warm little room with discs, Gutterman thread and lots of books.

UPS Dropoff

We still send UPS from Jubon Juweelen. If you have your packages here by 3:00 p.m., we should still be able to get them out that day.

Sioux Center Library Vendor's Fair

Renae Vander Schaaf and I will be taking part in a Vendor's Fair at the Sioux Center Library on December 8 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. We hope to have new copies of the second edition of our Dutch Cook Book at that time. Renae will be selling several of the books she has written and I will be selling Letters from Ralph and our cookbook. According to their poster there will be 32 vendors there and the booth fees go to support the Sioux Center summer reading program.

We don't get as many visitors in our new location as we did when we had the regular store, but this past month we had people sign our guest book from Arizona and Iowa.
